Some church leaders are urging victims of sexual abuse not to be afraid to seek refuge in the church despite the immense criticism the community has been facing.
Reverend Gary Harriott, General Secretary of the Jamaica Council of Churches, says it is natural that based on recent events, some persons are experiencing feelings of distrust and hurt toward the church.
However, he says victims of abuse should not be deterred by the actions of a few, as the church is still a place that provides support and care to those in need.
"Like in any organisation, sometimes one person steps out of line and then the whole organisation becomes affected, but it doesn't mean that everybody in the organisation is like that. And therefore, the church remains a place where people go," he asserted.
He insisted that the church is a "natural resource" that should still be utilized by persons in need of support.
