Civil Service Association warns of industrial action

The Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) has warned that it may resort to industrial action if  the government continues to breach what it says is the principle of  price restraint embedded in an agreement.

The warning is in relation to bus fare increases which have occurred twice over the life of  the 2012-2015 agreement.
In a release on Wednesday the JCSA highlighted its concern over the recent increase, says the timing was poor given that it coincides with the new school year.

According to the Association, it wants to continue dialogue with the government on the matter but wants to have decisions in writing as it no longer has any trust in the administration.
The JCSA also says it wants who it describes as politicians in the management of  the JUTC, removed and replaced by professionals in logistics and transport management.

It is asking the JUTC to fully address the weaknesses identified in the Auditor General's report and put systems in place to prevent their recurrence.

And the opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is calling for the removal of  the board of  the JUTC as well as Managing Director Colin Campbell.

Spokesman on Transport Dr. Horace Chang, says the blame for the lack of  reforms at the bus company should be laid squarely at their feet.
He has asserted that neither JUTC Chairman Garnett Roper nor  Campbell are experienced in logistics or transportation management to turn around the entity.

He has also called for the removal of  Transport Minister Dr. Omar Davies who he says has “arrogantly breached the trust of  many Jamaicans including the Jamaica Civil Service Association”.
