Cocoa workers in St. Mary protest stalled wage talks

Workers at Richmond Fementary Cocoa Nursery in St. Mary have staged a protest outside the factory.

They have locked the gates.

The workers are upset because wage negotiations have stalled between the company and their union since 2015.

They say the agreement for 2015/2017 has not been signed.

The workers had reportedly requested a three per cent increase in wages, however, that their request has not been met.

Some workers told RJR News they will be staying off the job until the issue is addressed.

The Cocoa Industry Board has been notified of the matter.
