Consumer optimism still high, says survey

The latest Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Business and Consumer Confidence report says consumer optimism remains high.
 
The survey found that business conditions and future job expectations are the contributing factors for the boost in consumer optimism.
 
Some 42 per cent of participants in the survey indicated that they expect to get better jobs in the future.
 
Consumers expressed strong confidence in the economy as more persons are finding jobs, particularly in the construction sector.
 
Thirty-nine per cent of participants in the survey indicated that business conditions will get better.
 
Business confidence declines 
 
However, Optimism among businesses saw a further decline during the fourth quarter of 2019.
 
The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Business and Consumer Confidence report said the main drivers for the decline were firms not convinced about current business conditions and uncertainty around the climate for investment and expansion.
 
There has been a steady downward trend in optimism among businesses since the second quarter of last year.
