Cop released from custody last week again charged with murder

A policeman who was ordered released before the St. Catherine Parish Court last Tuesday has again been arrested and charged with murder.

Detective Constable Shawn Pennington was arrested on Wednesday by the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and charged with the murder of Rishawn Oliver.

This follows a probe by the Independent Commission of  Investigations (INDECOM) and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In a news release Wednesday afternoon, INDECOM said Mr. Pennington was taken before Parish Judge Evan Brown in the St. Catherine Home Circuit Court.

He was offered $800,000 bail with sureties.

The matter was adjourned for mention on October 25.

However, the case was dismissed by the Parish Court judge last Tuesday when it was ruled that INDECOM did not have the jurisdiction to bring charges against the officer.
