Cops in Chedwin Park incident to be charged with nine offences

The two policemen at the centre of the recent controversial shootings in Chedwin Park, Spanish Town, St. Catherine are to be charged following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The incident left two civilians and a police corporal dead.

DPP Paula Llewellyn delivered her ruling to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) Friday morning.

In a media release Friday afternoon, INDECOM said Corporal Kirk Frazer and Corporal Rhamone Scott are to be charged with nine offences.

Each officer will be charged jointly with seven offences.

Corporal Scott is to be charged separately with two other offences.

The charges are in relation to the murder of Sheldon Daley, shooting with intent of two police officers, illegal possession of two firearms and the cop's illegal possession of their ammunition.

They are also charged with manslaughter arising from the motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Brunswick Avenue and Job Lane which claimed the life of Kevron Burrell.

The release said Corporal Scott is further charged with illegal possession of another firearm and illegal possession of ammunition for that firearm.

Both officers are expected to appear before the Circuit Court Division of the Supreme Court on Monday.

The shootings, which involved two off duty cops, and a three-member team of officers from Mobile Reserve, resulted in a man being shot dead at Chedwin Park, and Corporal Rohan Williams and another civilian being killed after a high speed chase ended in a motor vehicle crash.

It was reported that more shots were also fired.

The police officers have given contradicting versions of the incident.
