Cornwall Regional Hospital gets additional beds

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton

The Ministry of Health is moving to ease the bed shortage situation at Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St. James.

With the hospital struggling to cope with the shortage, which saw some patients sitting in wheelchairs for extended periods, the ministry has provided more beds.

Speaking at the official handing over ceremony Friday morning, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said the hospital received 44 beds two weeks ago and 36 more are to be provided to the facility by the end of the month. This will bring the bed count to 237.

The beds will be distributed to different areas of specialisation. The minister said the additional beds will ease the burden on the hospital in terms of people waiting to be admitted.
