Correctional officers to be tried for escape of high-risk prisoner

Two correctional officers who are on interdiction are to stand trial for the escape of a high-risk prisoner. They are accused of allowing the escape while on duty in 2005 at the Spanish Town Hospital.

Marcus Campbell and Wayne Henriques, who are attached to the St Catherine Adult Correctional Centre, were assigned to guard the prisoner, Mark Gocool. Following his escape, a file was prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who ruled last year that they be charged.

Both men turned themselves in earlier this year. They appeared before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday where their bail was extended. The men were ordered to return to court on July 17.

The prisoner remains on the run.
