A Police Constable who was charged with shooting a taxi operator during a traffic stop ten years ago, was freed when he appeared in court on Wednesday.
Donovan Grant,51, was acquitted of the charge of wounding, after prosecutors offered no further evidence against him.
Prosecutors reported that in 2004, Grant was part of a Transport Authority team, which got into a dispute with robot taxi operator, Miguel Bariffe, in the Port Maria Bus Park.
The Transport Authority officers were trying seize his vehicle, but he refused to hand over the keys to the car.
During the dispute, Bariffe reportedly attempted to use the vehicle to run over the Constable who then opened fire, hitting Bariffe in the shoulder.
However, defence attorney, Oswest Senior Smith, submitted that the charges should be dropped, on the basis of discrepancies in the eyewitness statements.
The prosecution conceded, pointing to the fact that Bariffe died two years ago.
