Dominica closes its borders, bans public gatherings

Dominica has announced the closure of its borders effective Thursday and a ban on public gatherings as the island recorded five new cases of the coronavirus.

In a radio and television broadcast Tuesday night, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the patients were associated with one of the two cases already under observation.

This increases to seven the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Dominica.

Mr. Skerrit said there is the possibility that wider transmission could have occurred.
