Dr. Peter Phillips and Audley Shaw still ahead in political leadership succession race

Don Anderson

The latest RJR Group/Don Anderson polls continue to show Dr. Peter Phillips and Audley Shaw as the favoured persons to succeed their respective political leaders.

The polls, which were conducted last month, show the men have gained 14 and 15 percentage points respectively since the last leadership succession poll was conducted in July of this year.

According to pollster Don Anderson, 37 per cent of those interviewed said Peter Phillips was the best  person to succedd Portia Simpson Miller as leader of the party.

"Lisa Hanna is listed as the number two, Peter Bunting at number three. We did the poll in July and Peter Phillips has jumped by 14 percentage points from 23 per cent in the July poll, consolidating his position in the minds of the people as the best person to succeed Portia Simpson Miller...... " Anderson said.

While Audley Shaw remains the favoured contender to succeed Andrew Holness, the poll is also indicating a fall in the prospects for Dr. Christopher Tufton.

"Audley Shaw in the July poll  was seen by 27 per cent of all persons interviewed as the best person to succeed Andrew Holness , Christopher Tufton was at 17 percentage points. That has changed significantly because Shaw has moved up to 42 percentage points, while Tufton has gone down  by seven percentage points....there has been some amount of shift," Anderson added.
