The extended dry spell in Jamaica has had a secondary impact on the reliability of the country's electricity service.
The Jamaica Public Service Company, the countrys lone electricity distributor, disclosed on Tuesday morning that contaminants on its lines had caused a series of outages in Portmore over the weekend.
These contaminants include salt from sea spray, and wind, which have remained on sections of the distribution network, due to the absence of rain.
JPS announced that over the next ten days its teams will continue the scheduled washing of lines serving the affected areas which should result in an improvement in the reliability of the service
The areas include Port Henderson Road, Edgewater, Bridgeport, West Bay, Armada Court, Naggos Head, Silverstone and Bridge View.
The company disclosed that the water that will be used is pure deionized water, which is safe, should it come into contact with humans.
It said the water is from the company's power plant.
