Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga has been hospitalised in South Florida.
A family member confirmed on Thursday evening that Mr. Seaga is very ill.
Later in the day, Mr. Seaga's wife, Carla Seaga, issued a statement, acknowledging the widespread support of the Jamaican people for the former Prime Minister who she said is receiving medical treatment in Florida.
"He is receiving excellent medical care and is sustained too by the love of his family and friends. He is currently in hospital as he has to receive further treatment there," she added.
Born May 28, 1930, Edward Phillip George Seaga served as Prime Minister of Jamaica from November, 1980 to February, 1989.
