Camille Dickson and other residents give their account of the apartment fire in Rockfort, Kingston
An elderly woman died in a house fire at Slipdock Road in Rockfort, Kingston on Monday morning.
She has been identified as 83 year old Corrine Morrison.
Seven other persons, including a child, have been hospitalised following the early morning blaze, which started sometime after 4 o'clock.
The three-story-concrete building was occupied by several families.
Camille Dickson, who lived on the top floor of the 27-room building with her three children, told RJR News they had to jump through the window to avoid the inferno.
Ms Dickson said she was unable to save any of their belongings.
She said her eldest daughter and some other residents were injured trying to escape.
Ms Dickson believes the fire started on the second floor where the elderly woman, who was bedridden, lived.
Several fire stations responded to assist in cooling down operations.
Residents say more than 60 people have been left homeless by the fire. They did not manage to save any belongings.
The cause of the blaze and the extent of the loss are not yet known.
