Energy Minister convenes meeting on new 'bad gas' report

Energy Minister Fayval Williams

Newly appointed Energy Minister Fayval Williams met on Sunday morning with a technical team from the state owned refinery, Petrojam, following news reports that contaminated fuel from the oil refinery is being released to the public.

The Gleaner reported on Sunday that the country could be on the verge of another bad gas saga due to "smelly gas" at the refinery.

An employee who spoke with The Gleaner reported that the "smelly fuel" is affecting the health of staff at the refinery.

The employee also warned that the fuel could damage the engines of motor vehicles.

In a statement on Sunday, Mrs Williams said she had been in communication with the Paul Hoo, Petrojam's board chairman, as well as Telroy Morgan, acting Manager, Refinery Optimization and Business Support at the refinery, about the reports.

Mrs Williams promised to update the country on the findings in the coming days.
