Extension of traffic ticket amnesty will cause more indiscipline, says Opposition senator

Donna Scott Mottley, Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate

Donna Scott Mottley, Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, has said the extension of the traffic ticket amnesty will cause more indiscipline in the society.

Senator Scott Motley said despite the need to collect outstanding revenue, the extension will signal to persons that there are no consequences for breaking the law.

"It is not to be done and it is not to be used as a tool because the more importnat thing that we must do is to inculcate in our people a sense of discipline, a sense of responsiveness to the law. That must be our overriding objective," she argued.

She has suggested a public education campaign as an alternative.

She was speaking in the Senate on Friday during deliberations on the Bill to extend the Traffic Ticket Amnesty until January.
