Fire fighters protest delay in salary payment

There is a low turnout of firefighters at some stations, due to the delay in the receipt of their salary for this month.

Errol Mowatt, Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, told RJR News on Thursday morning that the money was transmitted to the bank on Wednesday, but he said it was unclear what was causing the challenge with crediting the individual accounts. He said efforts were being made to contact the bank to rectify the problem.

The situation has been affecting York Park Fire Station, the main station in Kingston, the capital city, which is currently taking no calls, as the firefighters are refusing to work.

Deputy Superintendent Dennis Lyon, of the Administration Department, told RJR News that a team of senior officers is being mobilised to respond to emergencies.
