The Jamaica Fire Brigade continues keep watch on small pockets of fire in Jacks Hill, St. Andrew to ensure there is no threat to life and property.
On Sunday, the fire fighters extinguished several massive fires which threatened homes.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Environment Trust, Diana McCauley, says the problem of bush fires in the Jack Hill area has been a long standing one.
She expressed concern that not enough attention has been placed on preventative measures
“Jacks Hill has been burning for a long time, but we don’t seem to take preventative action, people are still clearing land using for agriculture, we don’t really have the facilities or ability to fight these fires. We need to look at our long standing problems,” McCauley said.
Another fire is now raging at the Doctor’s Wood Disposal Site in the eastern parish of Portland.
The area has been isolated and a National Solid Waste Management Authority’s (NSWMA) response team, and fire fighters are trying to extinguish the blaze.
As a result, residents of Windsor Castle, Hart Hill, Dover, Epsom surrounding areas who are affected by the fire and smoke, have been urged to take precautionary measures.
