First conviction of a lottery scammer secured by Task Force

The Lottery Scam Taskforce on Monday secured its first conviction in the Home Circuit Court after a man who was arrested last month for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act pleaded guilty. He is 21-year-old Marlon Davis, of Grange Pen, Lilliput in St. James and will be sentenced on January 24.

On December 28, a police team was on a special operation in Rose Hall, St. James when Davis, who was seen leaving a financial institution, began to act in a suspicious manner. He was searched and found in possession of items used in the lottery scam.

During a search of his premises, the police found a book containing names, addresses and phone numbers of persons living overseas as well as other lottery scamming paraphernalia.
