Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the JCF's Corporate Communications Unit

Five persons were shot, one fatally on Wednesday afternoon, when gunmen opened fire at the taxi stand along Burke Road in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

The dead man has not yet been identified.

Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communications Unit, told RJR News the incident took place about 1 p.m. It is reported that the gunmen went to the taxi stand and began opening fire, hitting the five persons - two females and three males.

One of the men succumbed to his injuries. The others are said to be in serious condition in hospital.

No motive has been established for the attack. However, it is believed the shooting might have been sparked by a dispute among extortionists in the taxi stand.
