FLA introducing online tracking for gun applications

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang

The Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) will introduce online tracking for gun applications.

It will be implemented this financial year.

This was announced by National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang during his contribution to the sectoral debate on Tuesday.

It was among several "process improvements" at the FLA, including the introduction of a finger printing mechanism directly connected to the Criminal Records Office database and the upgrading of the ballistic machine.

He said the agency will acquire a BulletTrax marking machine to improve its capacity to capture bullet signatures.

Dr. Chang said the changes will be in keeping with amendments to the Firearms Act.

Cabinet recently approved the amendments and they should be tabled in Parliament this legislative year.
