Former Minister challenges Prime Minister over gun licence claims

Former National Security Minister Peter Bunting has challenged Prime Minister Andrew Holness to provide evidence that during his tenure he used his Ministerial powers to issue firearm licenses to persons with adverse traces after they were denied by the Firearm Licensing Authority, FLA.

Mr Bunting is asserting that he never used this power during his tenure in those instances and this is in direct conflict with comments made by Mr Holness yesterday.

The controversy has been intensifying since the revelation was made that former National Minister Robert Montague approved the granting of  a license to someone after their application was denied by the FLA.

While at a media briefing yesterday, Mr Holness asserted that based on his discussion with National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang, there have been cases stretching back as far as five years ago when ministerial discretion was used to give firearm permits to persons with adverse traces who were previously refused.

However, Mr Bunting, who was Minister during a part of  this period, has strongly challenged this statement.
