Golding endorses Peter Bunting for PNP president

Senator Mark Golding has endorsed Peter Bunting who has signalled an interest in the Presidency of  the People's National Party (PNP).

Mr. Bunting and Dr. Peter Phillips are expected to emerge as the two main contenders for the post following Sunday's announcement by Portia Simpson Miller that she will not seek re-election.

Speaking with RJR News on Tuesday, Senator Golding said Mr. Bunting is a strategic thinker with the capacity to lead and manage the 78-year-old organization.

"I know of his capacity first hand as a leader, as a manager, as a strategic thinker and as somebody who knows how to delegate and get the most out of people who work with him," he said.

According to Senator Golding, who has been a long-time business partner of Peter Bunting, the time has come for someone of Mr. Bunting’s generation to assume the mantle of leadership.

"Given where Jamaica is and where the politics is going, I think we need to have somebody who is more in tuned with the way in which the world now operates and I think Peter Bunting is that man," declared the senator.

Senator Golding, who said he hopes the transition will be handled in a way that strengthens rather than weakens the PNP.
