The government is seeking to reach a settlement with O'Brien's Car Sales and Rentals after the entity failed to deliver on its contract to supply 200 used vehicles to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang said the matter is now in mediation.
The Ministry of National Security paid O'Brien's more than $230 million to supply the vehicles.
O'Brien's has delivered 66 cars to date.
The government is seeking to recover the money paid for the procurement of the vehicles.
RJR News on Thursday sought an update from Dr. Chang, who said, while the matter is in mediation, the Fraud Squad is also conducting an investigation to determine whether there was any fraudulent transaction on the part of O'Brien's.
He said following the failed deal with O'Brien's, the government has shifting its policy and will now only purchase new vehicles for the police force.
According to Dr. Chang, about 40 new vehicles have already been purchased for the police so far this financial year.
