Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced plans to replace dilapidated houses in sections of West Kingston.
He gave details on the housing programme following a tour of a section of the community, known as Rasta City, on Saturday.
He reported seeing buildings up to a hundred years old, “about to collapse but still yet they accommodate families; in some cases three or four households live there.”
The situation requires “urgent attention” he said.
He said there are also some incomplete buildings, construction of which started in the 1970s and 80s, leaving the would-be occupants of those houses in unsafe temporary shelters.
“The government has to complete those programmes which were started,” he promised.
