Gov't considers relocating residents affected by dust from JISCO/Alpart plant

Daryl Vaz, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation

Consideration is to be given to relocating residents affected by the dust nuisance from the JISCO/Alpart bauxite plant in St. Elizabeth.

Daryl Vaz, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth, has said discussions will be held with Mining Minister Robert Montague.

The residents have complained that the dust nuisance is becoming unbearable.

Mr. Vaz agreed, noting that he believes the relocation is important because residents are dealing with a health crisis that has been intensified with drought and windy conditions.

He was speaking with Radio Jamaica News following a tour of communities in St. Elizabeth on Thursday.

Mr. Vaz said the government will try to prevent a repeat of the situation where some residents were relocated from Myersville to communities that are still affected by the dust.
