Gov't focused on maintaining stability, says Holness in response to election speculation

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has responded to speculation that a general election will be called this year.

The election is constitutionally due in 2021.

The People's National Party has stepped up its campaign in preparation for an election being announced.

Speaking at an Area 3 council meeting in Clarendon on Sunday, Mr. Holness said the Government is focused on maintaining stability in the country.

He said nothing will be done to derail that plan.

"This government is not going to put politics over the national interest. At this present point in time, it is in the nation's interest to maintain the stability that exists. It is in the nation's interest to have the economic programmes continued and anchored in a budget. We don't want to disturb those things. We worked too hard to get here," he asserted.
