Gov't introducing policies for bamboo use

Dr. Omer Thomas, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, has said the government will implement policies for the use of bamboo as an alternative to plastic and Styrofoam.
He said the Government has developed a special unit at the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) to promote the use of more bamboo products.
This follows the ban on single use plastic bags and Styrofoam.
In 2012, Jamaica became a member of the International Organization for Bamboo and Rattan.
