The cost for a marriage licence in Jamaica could soon be increased.
The current fee is $4,000.
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, who announced plans to seek an increase on Thursday, also disclosed that since the start of the year, almost 5,000 marriage licences have been issued to tourists intent on getting married in Jamaica.
He argued that J$4,000 is "chicken feed" and pointed out that with such a demand for marriage licences by tourists, the segment could become a major money earner for Jamaica.
Mr. Chuck said his ministry will align the fees to international standards.
He was speaking Thursday morning at his ministry's quarterly media briefing.
