Gov't to spend $190m for Portmore Municipal Corporation building

The Government of Jamaica is to spend $190 million to construct a building to house the Portmore Municipal Corporation.

The building is to be constructed on a property owned by the municipal corporation on Braeton Park Way in Gregory Park.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie said for the construction, the Portmore Municipal Corporation will provide $90 million while the Ministry of Local Government will provide the additional $100 million to complete the building.
Construction is expected to last for 20 months, beginning on June 1 this year. Ground will be broken at the site on May 30, Mr. McKenzie said.

The minister made the announcement at Thursday morning's signing of a contract for the construction.
