Grenada has become the latest shareholder government of the cash-strapped regional airline, LIAT.
Grenada's CARICOM Affairs Minister Oliver Joseph said Grenada stands to benefit from the decision to become a shareholder.
Data show that over 44,000 passengers used the services of the airline to and from Grenada last year while for the first quarter of 2019 the number stands at nearly 10-thousand 900.
Mr. Joseph said Grenada had to support LIAT because not supporting the regional carrier will mean the loss of revenue and economic development to the country.
He was speaking with reporters at Tuesday's weekly Cabinet meeting.
Grenada's decision to become a shareholder was accepted at the shareholders meeting in Antigua last week.
