A man, said to be of unsound mind, was shot dead by a security guard at the staff quarters of the Bahia Principe Hotel in Run-a-way Bay, St. Ann on Friday morning.
Deputy Superintendent Gary McKenzie, head of the St. Ann Police Division, said the shooting occurred around 3 o'clock after the unidentified man breached the fence to the hotel.
It's reported that the security guard tried to accost the man, but he began throwing stones, and that the guard persisted in trying to subdue him but the man did not relent.
The guard reportedly fired a shot or shots, hitting the man. He was pronounced dead at St. Ann's Bay Hospital.
The matter is being investigated by the St. Ann's Bay Police.
