Guyana's acting Chief Justice, Roxane George-Wiltshire, on Wednesday ruled that the court cannot fix a date for elections – dealing the opposition another blow in its pursuit to force early polls.
Justice George-Wiltshire also confirmed that the Caribbean Court of Justice did not fix a date or timeframe for the conduct of General and Regional Elections.
As a result, she declined to grant an order compelling the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to hold elections by September 18.
Guyana's president David Granger has said he will announce a date for elections, once GECOM provides him with the information that it is fully prepared to conduct the polls.
