Harry Belafonte heads list of national awardees

More than 200 individuals were on Monday morning specially recognised for sterling contribution in their fields, meritorious service and for showing bravery in the face of danger.
 
The Ceremony of Investiture and presentation of national awards and honours was held at Kings House.
 
International star Harry Belafonte was conferred with the Order of Merit in absentia.
 
He was honoured for his outstanding contribution in the field of music.
 
Tourism stalwart Godfrey Dyer led the honourees for the Order of Jamaica. He was joined by Earl Jarrett, for exceptional contribution to the banking and financial sectors, public service and volunteerism, and  Grace Jones for exceptional contribution in the field of entertainment internationally. 
 
Olympian Alia Atkinson, trade unionist Senator Kavan Gayle, Montego Bay Mayor Homer Davis, communications expert Jean Lowrie-Chin, and United States Congresswoman Yvette Clarke were among those who received the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander.
 
Barbara Blake-Hannah, Winston 'Yellowman' Foster, Dermot Hussey, Joan Andrea Hutchinson and Dr. Grace McLean were among those who joined the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer.
 
RJR's Donovan Dacres also received the Badge of Honour for Long and Faithful Service to the music industry.
