Hearing into Election Petition filed by Norman Dunn to start Thursday

The hearing into the Election Petition filed by the Jamaica Labour Party's Dr Norman Dunn is scheduled to commence Thursday in the Supreme Court.

Dr Dunn is challenging the election result in the St. Mary South Eastern seat which was won by the People's National Party's Dr Winston Green. Dr Green was declared the winner by five votes following the magisterial recount in March.

Dr Dunn is challenging the counting by the magistrate and reported discrepancies he claimed were uncovered with some of the ballots.

Lawyers for Dr Dunn, on Tuesday, began examining all the ballots and other papers in preparation for the hearing. A Supreme Court judge granted them an order last month to examine the disputed ballots and other documents.

The exercise is being conducted at the Electoral Office of Jamaica. Lawyers for Dr Green are participating in the exercise.
