Holness to address Parliament on zone of operations in Mount Salem

Prime Minister Andrew Holness is to make a statement to the House of Representatives on Tuesday on the Zone of Special Operations in Mount Salem and its environs in St. James.

It is expected that he will address some of the concerns and criticism since the zone was announced on September 1. It is also expected that he will speak to the announcement of wrong murder figures for Mount Salem.

The Opposition has questioned the rationale behind selecting Mount Salem as the first zone compared to other areas where crime and violence are more rampant.

Dennis Chung, Chief Executive Officer of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), has said all parishes should be declared Zones of Special Operations.

He said it should not take a high murder figure for an area to be declared a zone for intervention by the security forces.
