Terrence Williams, head of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has suggested that funds from the National Housing Trust (NHT) can be used to improve security and justice in Jamaica.
Addressing St. Catherine NHT Community Leaders on Tuesday evening, Mr. Williams said the surplus from the NHT is sufficient to be put to other areas.
He suggested that Parliamentarians consider taking the yearly contribution of employers to the NHT and investing it into a properly operated justice system.
Employers contribute three per cent of the gross salaries of employees to the NHT.
Mr. Williams said this could be one solution to stem crime.
He also suggested investing the money from the NHT into Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) and the Forensic Laboratory.
