INDECOM probes death of prisoner at Yallahs police station

INDECOM is probing the death of a prisoner at the Yallahs police station on Monday.

Christopher Allen, 45, died while being detained at the station on charges of possessing counterfeit currency.

INDECOM has reportedly received conflicting accounts given by the police on what happened to Mr. Allen.

They had reported that the prisoner became ill and was taken to hospital sometime after 5 o'clock Monday afternoon and died an hour later.

But doctors reported that the prisoner was taken to hospital after 9 p.m. and was already dead.

Defence attorney Oswest Senior Smith is observing proceedings on behalf of Allen's family.

Allen, a resident of Spanish Town, St. Catherine was arrested and charged last week with two women, selling counterfeit money in St. Thomas.

The three were offered station bail but Allen was unable to take up the offer.
