Effective December 1, Jamaica's Island Traffic Authority (ITA) will begin charging administrative fees for services it provides.
The Authority says the charges, which it previously absorbed, have become necessary due to the need to generate income to assist with the maintenance of its facilities.
The services which will attract administrative fees are insurance requests, which will cost $7,000, and garage visits, which will cost $15,000. There will be a J$500 charge for each additional vehicle.
In addition, there will be a special permits processing fee of J$2,500 dollars; J$3,000 for driving history and substitute licence, J$10,000 for verification of year of manufacture, J$12,000 for Customs and Chassis Verification, and J$20,000 for Structural Verification of Integrity.
The ITA is expected to earn $174 million annually from the fees.
