Italy extends lockdown as coronavirus cases surpass 101,000

Italy extended its lockdown until at least April 12 as the total number of coronavirus cases surpassed 101,000.
 
It comes as the country's death toll rose to 11,591.
 
However, the number of new cases of coronavirus decreased for the fifth day in a row with 1,648 new cases Monday. 
 
Italy was first put in lockdown three weeks ago.
 
Spain's cases slowing
 
Meanwhile, the growth in coronavirus cases in hard-hit Spain appears to be slowing.
 
Another 6,400 cases were confirmed Monday, the lowest increase in new cases for a week. 
 
The total number of deaths reached 7,340 after 812 new fatalities.
 
It comes as a national lockdown expanded to instruct non-essential workers to stay home for two weeks.
 
Globally, 36,211 people have died, with 755,591 testing positive.
