Jack Warner taken to court on extradition warrant, offered bail

Austin Jack Warner, leader of the Independent Liberal Party in Trinidad & Tobago, and former FIFA vice-president, was brought before Chief Magistrate in Trinidad this afternoon, an hour after he surrendered to the police.

He reportedly surrendered, following news that police had obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Mr Warner, who is an ex-president of CONCACAF, football's regional governing body, has been indicted on allegations that he took US$10 million in bribes from the South African Government for the 2010 World Cup. Fourteen persons are under indictment while seven were arrested in Switzerland last night.

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch told a press conference this morning that the investigation into wide spread corruption at FIFA will continue and hinted at additional arrests.

Prior to his surrender, however, Mr. Warner strongly asserted that the allegations against him will not stand.

Gavin Nicholas, Trinidad & Tobago's Attorney General confirmed that an extradition request had been received in relation to Mr Warner.
