Jamaican among 13 detained in ICE operation in US

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency says a Jamaican is among 13 people detained during a four-day operation that targeted immigrants who have been issued a final order of  removal in the past five years.

It said those detained also have criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.

The unidentified Jamaican, who was in the US illegally, was arrested on Wednesday. He had a prior firearms-related offence.

ICE said last year, 58,581 immigrants were arrested, 90 per cent of  whom had criminal convictions, or previously issued final orders of  removal from the US.
