Jamaican "pimp" gets 27 years in Florida

A violent Jamaican pimp, who preyed on women from various countries and turned them into sex slaves, has been sent to jail for 27 years.

Damion St Patrick Baston was sentenced in a Miami, Florida court on Monday. He was found guilty of  21 charges, including sex trafficking and money laundering, after a trial in the US District Court in Miami in July.

A New Zealand woman was flown in by prosecutors to give testimony against the 37-year-old former nightclub dancer, music producer and self-described entrepreneur.

Baston bashed, threatened and raped his victims. He bragged about being a member of  a violent street gang and then kept the hundreds of  thousands of  dollars the women made.

The Jamaican was arrested in New York in December, after one of  his victims flew from the US to Australia to renew her visa and her relatives alerted the US State Department.
