Jamaican to be sentenced in New Jersy on sexual assault charge

Bail was denied and a sentencing date set in a New Jersey Court yesterday for 41 year old Homer Bishop who was extradited from Jamaica on Tuesday on a charge of  aggravated sexual assault of  an underage girl.

At the brief  bail hearing in the Bergen County Courthouse a Judge set  Bishop's sentencing date for April 10.

According to the prosecutor's office, he is charged with assaulting a girl who was 12 years old when the abuse began.   Bishop, who is Jamaican, posted J$80-thousand bail and remained out of  jail pending sentencing.

But he failed to appear at the 2007 sentencing hearing, and was placed on the Bergen County Sheriff's Office's "Most Wanted" list.An anonymous tip that he was in Kingston was made to the sheriff's office in late 2013.

This led to a complicated extradition process lasting more than a year, and involving the U.S. Marshals Service, the Justice Department’s Office of  International Affairs and Jamaican detectives.
