Jamaicans were among several foreigners picked up on Saturday by the security forces during operations in the Spanish community of Newton north of St. Kitts and Nevis.
A report by radio station Winn FM in St. Kitts and Nevis said the operation appeared to be an attempt to clamp down on illegal or undocumented migrants. The foreigners were transported in buses to an undisclosed location.
Two men who identified themselves as Jamaicans told Winn FM that some of their Jamaican friends had been picked up during the operation.
It is not clear how many of those rounded up are undocumented or have overstayed in St. Kitts and Nevis, and whether they remain in police custody.
It could not be ascertained whether they will be given an opportunity to regularise their status or be deported.
