JLP activist shot and killed in St. Thomas

Well-known Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) activist Rameish Simpson was last night shot and killed by gunmen in St. Thomas

The police report that a woman  who was also shot,  has been hospitalised.

The incident took place outside Mr. Simpson's house in the community of  Logwood.

It's reported that shortly before 9pm,  Simpson and the woman arrived home. He alighted his car to open the gate and was pounced on by men who shot him several times - he died at scene.

The woman was shot in the lower body.

The gunmen then set fire to  Simpson's Mustang motorcar.

In late 2015,   Simpson and a relative were arrested in late 2015 after the police said they removed a firearm and ammunition from a vehicle which was being driven by the JLP activist.

The items were allegedly found following what the police described as a high-speed chase, which ended with   Simpson driving his vehicle into the sea in the vicinity of Grants Pen in St Thomas.
