JLP concerned about halt in Rare Earth project

Opposition Spokesman on Mining Karl Samuda, has called for immediate disclosure from Mining Minister Phillip Paulwell on the Rare Earth project which has been put on hold.
Paulwell has disclosed that the project stalled because of the effects of a World Trade Organization, WTO, ruling which caused the price of the mineral to fall.

Samuda told RJR News that the development requires a detailed report from the Mining Minister.

"He has an obligation to come to the house with a full statement on the project, a full disclosure as to where he is with the project... because it was greeted with optimism and now, once again, we are to be disappointed," Samuda said.

Rare Earth is found in deposits from red mud waste discarded after bauxite processing and is used in the production of a wide range of electronics.

Meanwhile, Samuda says the stalling of the project was foreseeable, an issue previously raised with Paulwell.
