Kelvin Carr, Senior Policy Analyst in the Criminal Civil Justice and Family Law Unit in the Justice Ministry
The Justice Ministry is reporting that there has been an 11 per cent increase in the number of applications for expungement of criminal records so far this year when compared to the same period in 2017.
Kelvin Carr, Senior Policy Analyst in the Criminal Civil Justice and Family Law Unit in the Ministry, confirmed that there has also been an eight per cent increase in approvals granted for expungement.
The Criminal Records (Rehabilitation of Offenders) Act allows for the expungement of certain convictions permanently from the records of offenders.
Mr. Carr said Jamaicans have taken a serious approach to clearing their records and this has resulted in more work for the Ministry.
He was speaking Tuesday night on RJR's Balancing Justice programme.
