Justice Seymour Panton appointed judge of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals

The Secretary-General of  the United Nations (UN) has appointed Jamaican, Justice Seymour Panton as Judge of  the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals - this follows the resignation of  Judge Patrick Robinson of  Jamaica.

Before joining the Mechanism, Justice Panton served as President of  Jamaica's Court of  Appeal.

The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals was established by the United Nations Security Council on December 22, 2010.

It carries out a number of  functions of  the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia following the completion of  their mandates
