JUTC considers suspending route to August Town amid recent violence

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has said it is keeping a close watch on August Town to decide if it should continue service to the area amidst an upsurge in violence.
Four persons, including a Jamaica College student, were shot Thursday afternoon on August Town road.
The JUTC resumed operations in the area earlier on Friday after withdrawing buses from the route Thursday afternoon.
"If we decide to pull, it would be in conjunction with the advice that we get from the police, so we haven't received any reports of anything untowards right now," advised JUTC Communications Manager Cecil Thoms.
Members of the security forces have been in the community to ease tensions since the shooting on Thursday.
